<p><img src="https://imgssl.constantcontact.com/letters/images/1101116784221/S.gif" border="0" alt="" hspace="0" vspace="0" width="5" height="1" /></p>]]></content></entry><entry><title>Special Announcement - Director Transition</title><id>http://www.communitymidrasha.org/journal/special-announcement-director-transition.html</id><link rel="alternate" type="text/html" href="http://www.communitymidrasha.org/journal/special-announcement-director-transition.html"/><author><name>Community Midrasha</name></author><published>2013-04-26T12:30:25Z</published><updated>2013-04-26T12:30:25Z</updated><content type="html" xml:lang="en-US"><![CDATA[<p>Dear Midrasha students, parents, and friends,<br /><br />As some of you may have heard, I will be starting a two-year full-time MBA program at UNC-Chapel Hill this summer, so it is bittersweet that I tell you that I will be stepping down as Midrasha Director at the end of this semester.&nbsp; I have truly enjoyed working with our amazing students and talented faculty this year and getting to know the unique individuals that make up our community.<br /><br />While I am sad to be leaving this role, I am excited to announce that the Board has hired a phenomenal <strong>Incoming Director, Rachel Margolis</strong>.&nbsp; Rachel is a graduate of the joint MAJE and MAJNM program at Hebrew Union College in Los Angeles. She has worked as the Program Director of Cornell Hillel and the Director of Education at University Synagogue in Los Angeles. Since moving to the Triangle Region, Rachel's has served as a Jewish Education Consultant, working with synagogues and Jewish Federations around the country.</p>
<p><br />I look forward to continuing to work with students, parents, and faculty on a weekly basis through June 1st while Rachel works as a consultant with us to assess the Midrasha program and revitalize it with exciting changes for the fall. <p>Community Midrasha's classes, mishpacha programs, and monthly special events are held on Sundays from 4-6 pm in the Education Building of the Judea Reform Congregation. Please refer to our 2012-2013 schedule listed under Calendar.</p>
<p>All our offerings are organized around the following pillars:</p>
<ul>
<li>History and Culture </li>
<li>Talmud Torah</li>
<li>Contemporary Judaism</li>
<li>Service Learning</li>
</ul>
<p>Our students have the opportunity to register for two courses each semester. Offerings include Sacred Text Study, Tikkun Olam, Israel, Jewish History, Contemporary Culture and Identity, Jewish Arts, Jewish Rituals and Spiritual Practices. Healthy snacks are served during class. Special events that are held &nbsp;revolve around the Jewish calendar.</p>
<p><strong>Mission and Purpose: </strong></p>
<p>Community Midrasha's mission is to engage teens in learning about Jewish culture, history, and religion and to inspire in them a lifelong commitment to Jewish learning, practice and community.</p>
<p>We are a pluralistic Jewish learning community where teens (grades 8-12) from all over Durham-Chapel Hill, NC come to learn, to laugh, and to be inspired. We welcome all teens regardless of synagogue affiliation or prior religious education. Mirroring the diversity in our student body, our teachers are Rabbis, educators and graduate students from all streams of Jewish life and practice.</p>
<p><strong>Admissions Policy:</strong></p>
<p>The Community Midrasha welcomes students of any race, color, national origin, ethnic origin, sexual orientation, and gender to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, ethnic origin, sexual orientation, and gender in administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, and other school-administered programs.</p>
