It's hard to believe that we're already to the third trimester. Here are the offerings for our last third of the year:
First Hour
Out of the Box Story Art Part II with Rachel Galper
In this class we will continue exploring visual and literary art as story. Last class we created a beautiful story quilt and began our mosaic project. This trimester, we will complete our angel mosaic project and then gather inspiration from Jewish writers and visual artists as we dive into creative writing and illustrating of our personal, familial, and ancestral stories, dreams and visions, and holy Torah tales.
Conversational Hebrew with Stephanie Rockitter
Brush up on your vocab and learn more than just your aleph from your bet!
Soul Food: Jewish Values from a Gastronomic Perspective with Yehudis Bluming
Sounds delish, doesn't it? In this course, students will learn about and discuss food issues within the framework of both Jewish tradition and contemporary life. We will examine the everyday aspects of life; students will reflect on their own food choices and (social, environmental, ethical, health) implications of those choices. From the laws and observances of kashrut, the concepts of eco-kosher, and fair-trade practices...this course fills you up with knowledge and still saves room for dessert!
Kabbalah for the Teenage Soul with Rabbi Zalman Bluming

Second Hour
Ethics and Shooting Hoops is your thing...get ready to learn in You Decide with Rabbi Zalman Bluming
Learning through the lens of Torah has never been this much fun! Study text, discuss ethics, and shoot some hoops while learning with Rabbi Zalman.
Breaking Down The Ism Schism: Loving Our Sisters and Brothers From Another Mother with Rachel Galper
In this course will use a Jewish lens to help us examine some of the most controversial issues of our time: environmental destruction, racism, classism, and gender discrimination. We will learn how these issues affect us right here in our communities and how we can respond creatively and Jewishly to the challenges they present. The course will include movies, guest speakers, time in the woods, art, and lively discussion and story sharing.
Comparative Religion with Judith Roth
We will be reading the Quran, the Tanakh, and the Christian Bible comparing and contrasting a variety of topics including Kashrut, the ways in which these sacred texts begin variations on the Joseph and other stories. We will explore how each text is read and studied, how they are interpreted by other religions, and how they reflect the differences between Judaism, Islam, and Christianity.

Upper Classman Collaborative Study Group (11th & 12th grade)
First Hour with Judith Roth
This semester will focus on Jewish identity in the US as differentiated from European Jewry, understanding what is race and ethnicity, and how they are used by both Jews and other groups (religious, ethnic, political, etc.). We will explore how the various Jewish denominations have developed and evolved, Jewish feminism as an American experience, and how we each create a Jewish identify unique to each of us and part of the American Jewish experience.
We will read poetry, watch videos and movies, and take a look at musical lyrics to help us grapple with our American Jewish Identity.
Second Hour with Rabbi Greyber
Judaism for Grownups - Shmoneh Perakim or "Eight Chapters" was Maimonides' introduction to his commentary on Pirke Avot. In this class with Beth El's new spiritual leader, Rabbi Daniel Greyber, we'll focusing on themes as virtue, vice, ethics, God, and free will as presented through the lens of one of Judaism's (and the world's) greatest thinkers.
